Google has launched the Nexus 6, its latest showcase phone that comes
with a brand new version of Android, 5.0 "Lollipop", and an
interesting-looking camera specification. Nexus devices are usually
designed and made by Google in cooperation with a hardware manufacturer.
After previous Nexus phones from HTC, Samsung and LG, this time it's
Motorola's turn. In light of this, it's no surprise that the Nexus 6
looks very much like an enlarged version of the recently announced new Moto X, with the same metal frame, curvy design and dimple on the back.
The new device also comes with the same dual-LED ring flash as the
Moto X and a 13MP imaging sensor. However, it adds a slightly faster
F2.0 aperture and an optical image stabilization system into the mix
which, at least in theory, should make it an interesting option for
smartphone photography in lower light conditions. Like the Moto X, the
Nexus 6 is capable of recording 4K video.
Despite the similarities in design its dimensions make the Nexus a
very different device from the Moto X. With its 5.96-inch QHD AMOLED
screen is noticeably larger and fully qualifies as a phablet. The device
is powered by Qualcomm's latest high-end system chip, the Snapdragon
S805, and users can choose between versions with 32 or 64GB of storage.
Unfortunately there is no microSD-slot.

Nexus devices run a "pure" version of Android, without any
manufacturer user interface add-ons or carrier bloatware. The new
version, 5.0 "Lollipop" has new features to sync content consumption,
app usage and searches across devices and lets you apply filters to
notification settings. For example, you can set the feature to only show
messages from certain people during an important meeting. There is also
a new battery saver feature that extends the life of your device by up
to 90 minutes. This being a Nexus device, it's safe to assume that
Google Camera will be the default camera app.
The Nexus 6 will be available to pre-order starting the 29th of
October with shipments scheduled some time in November. It will be
available in Midnight Blue or Cloud White from the Google Play Store
starting at $649.
