Entries are now being accepted for the Epson International Pano
Awards competition that celebrates and rewards outstanding panoramic
photography. In its sixth year, the contest which is sponsored by Epson
Australia, has a prize fund of $50,000, including a single prize of
$5,000 for the Jeff Mitchum Fine Art category.
As well as $20,000 in cash, the total prize fund is made up of Epson
printers and projectors, and vouchers for the Triple Scoop Music
soundtrack licensing service for photographers and videographers. There
are also software prizes.
To qualify as 'panoramic' images must be submitted with 2:1 edge
ratios or wider, and all submissions should be in digital format and
entered online. There are categories for all photographers as well as
those specifically for amateurs, with both sections offering themes of
Nature/Landscapes and Built Environment/Architecture. There is an
additional category for Virtual Reality and 360° images, the likes of
which have been in the news recently with GoPro's acquisition of Kolor.
In the 2014 competition there were 3971 images entered overall by 871
photographers, from 54 countries. Entry costs $20 per image for the
open competition and $16 for the amateur sections. VR and 360° images
cost $12 to enter, and early bird rates allow five images to be
submitted for the price of four.
