The new Samsung Galaxy S5 was arguably the hottest new device launched at the Mobile World Congress 2014
in Barcelona. The new Samsung flagship smartphone offers an all around
high-end specification and impressively comprehensive feature set
including heart-rate and fingerprint sensors and a water-resistant
shell.
And the S5 has a lot to offer to mobile photographers, too.
16MP images and video with up to UHD (4K) resolution are captured on a
1/2.6-inch CMOS sensor and through a F2.2 lens. Samsung has published a
new hands-on video that explains most of the S5's new features. It also
briefly touches on the camera specification and goes on to demonstrate
some of the new imaging features.
You can witness HDR video
recording and see the new autofocus system, that uses both phase and
contrast detection for increased speed, in action. The new Selective
Focus feature captures a quick series of images while shifting the
focus. In the resulting image you can then select the area in focus by
tapping on the screen. Selective Focus works pretty much in the same way
as Nokia's Refocus lens that we recently tested in our Lumia 1520 review.
Watch
the video below to see all of the Samsung Galaxy S5's new features in
action. Jump straight to 1:50 if you are only interested in the camera
portion of the video.
